Description. My wife and I are
interested in one or two home swaps in Europe within the period 18 July to
15 October 2001. Ideally we would like 3 -5 weeks in Germany, Switzerland
or France in the early part of our stay and then 3-5 weeks in Spain toward
the end but we are open to options. I am a farmer, real estate agent and
host farm operator, 53 years young. Jill works for the government in the
welfare sector and helps me when necessary and is 51 years young. We live
in what we think is a beautiful part of Queensland, Australia but want to
experience other cultures and places while we are still fit and active.
Our Farm, Eastlake, is an 80 hectare cattle grazing farm on a peninsular
in Lake Tinaroo on the Atherton Tableland one hours drive west of Cairns
and its international airport. Cairns is a popular international
destination providing access to the Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics
World Heritage areas, nice beaches and the hinterland which include! s the
Tablelands. While Cairns is on the coast and is very tropical, the
Tablelands are 670 metres approximately above sea level and are therefore
about 3 degrees cooler in summer. Our winters are mild ranging on average
from a low of 8-10 degrees to a high of 18 to 19 degrees. Our summer
temperatures range from between 19 degrees to around 30 degrees. The
coastal plain is flat and predominantly under sugar cane. The Tablelands
range from hilly forest and grazing country with lots of waterfalls and
lakes to rich gently sloping farming country to semi arid rough grazing
country. West of the Tablelands is the Gulf Savannah or Outback. Our home
is a ground level brick, steel and glass structure with 3 bedrooms each
with queen sized beds or better, 3 bathrooms and large open plan living
area. We have all the modern conveniences. The house is 80 metres from the
lake where there is a pontoon and boat ramp. Water skiing , swimming, wind
surfing, fishing and red claw fishing are popular recreational pursuits.
Barramundi (fish) are at world record size in the lake at around 32 kg and
the red claw freshwater crayfish are plentiful and delicious. We have a
half court tennis court adjacent to the house. Also on the property is a
second dwelling which we rent out short term as a holiday unit. We propose
having friends use either the house or the unit as caretakers while we are
away so we can offer the other for swapping. Which accommodation is
swapped will depend on the the preference of the swap partner. The holiday
unit has 3 bedrooms, 2 of which have queen sized beds and the other twin
singles. Plus there is a set of double bunks in the living area which is
large and open plan. The unit has only one bathroom, a laundry and a large
verandah. There are many attractions within 1 to 2 hours of here. We are
keen to include a vehicle swap and have 2 cars and a 1100cc Suzuki road
bike as options. Our ski boat may be available to our swap partners. As
our place is set up to cater for active group recreation, it is suitable
for a family or 2 to 3 couples who may be traveling together. As a
couple, we are only in need of a smaller accommodation but are happy to
consider all options be they in a town or the country. We are more
interested in meeting people, seeing places and doing things actively than
frequenting restaurants, museums etc.
