Description. Large
"bourgeois" apartment in the very heart of Paris.
My apartment is 140 square meters, which is quite spacious for Paris. It
consists of a big lounge (nearly 30 sq. m.), a dining room (20 sq. m.)
which is independent but which can be opened on the lounge, two big
bedrooms (20 sq. m. each) and a smaller one (14 sq. m). There is an
independent kitchen which is fully equipped and which is brand new as I
had it recently installed. There are two bathrooms, one with a bath and
the other one with a shower. The apartment is what we in France would call
typically "bourgeois". There is wall to wall carpeting in the
bedrooms and beautiful wooden floor in the other rooms. All rooms have
original wood and plaster moldings on the ceilings (by the way, the
ceilings are quite high). Nearly all the rooms have marble fireplaces
which cannot be used any longer but that are very decorative. The
apartment is very bright as it is located on an avenue on the 6th floor
and it faces no other building directly. Moreover, the windows are very
big. You do not have to worry about the noise as I had double glazing
installed in the bedrooms (I really like quietness). There are two small
balconies, one in the living room, the other one in the dining room. The
building was built at the beginning of this Century and it belongs to the
most beautiful ones in Paris. The stone frontage is totally carved, there
is a marble hall with columns and a red carpet in the stairs (do not
worry, there is also a lift !). Although the condominium is rather small
as it only consists of big apartments, there is a concierge on the first
floor of the building who is here full time. The part of Paris where I
live is called the golden triangle of the "12eme
arrondissement". All the buildings in the surroundings were built at
the same period and have the same architectural style. The apartment is
very centrally located, about 200 meters from the metro Gare de Lyon (you
do not have to worry about the noise of the trains, they arrive on the
other side of the station and one can absolutely not hear them, even from
the station itself) and about 500 meters from Bastille (less than half a
mile). This location is extremely convenient because it is very close to
the center of Paris (I often walk to Bastille, Place des Vosges and Hotel
de Ville) and you can find numerous metro lines and especially the most
convenient ones to get everywhere. You can get to Hotel de Ville, the
Louvre and the Tuileries gardens in less than 10 minutes with line number
1. This line can also take you quickly to Vincennes, its castle and its
forest. With RER line A, you can easily get to Opera (in 10 minutes) or to
Place de l'Etoile (the Arc de Triomphe) or to Euro Disneyland with direct
access. You can get to the new Bibliotheque nationale de France in 10
minutes with the new metro line which opened two years ago. Access to
Versailles is also very convenient. What I like best is that one can walk
to many beautiful places, like Bastille or the banks of the Seine river
(less than 10 minutes), Notre-Dame or the place des Vosges in the Marais
in 15 to 20 minutes. Moreover, the apartment is located on the avenue
Daumesnil which is known in Paris for its hanging gardens / promenade. The
apartment faces the promenade and you can walk (or run !) to Vincennes
forest and castle nearly without crossing any streets. Besides, the view
from the apartment over the gardens is beautiful in Summer. There is also
another garden, a beautiful contemporary one called parc de Bercy, close
to the apartment. The part of Paris where I live is very quiet and safe
but if you like hectic places, you will probably enjoy the Bastille
neighborhood nearby. There are restaurants and shops (especially arts and
design shops on the avenue Daumesnil) and a very good bakery near the
apartment.
Now, let me tell you a few words about me and about the two friends with
whom I share the apartment and who would accompany me this Summer. The
three of us are in our early thirties. I am an associate professor in
University where I teach social sciences. One of my friends, Philippe, is
a management professor in a business school, and the other one, who is
also called Philippe, is a social scientist and epidemiologist. We are all
non smokers and experienced home exchangers as we exchanged our previous
apartment with a Californian family last Summer. In case you should be
interested and would like further information, please, do not hesitate to
contact me.
