Description. Berlin, one of
the most exciting places to be at the moment, with mitte being the
ultimate location for every one interested in music, art, clubbing,
fashion and architecture.....and luckily my Berlin-typical, newly
renovated one room apartment is right in the heart of mitte!! stepping out
the door you are directly on the Torstrasse with its many night clubs,
pubs, art galleries and restaurants, with public transport right in front
of the door (in the entire city centre, especially the east, of Berlin you
won't have to walk more than 5 minutes to reach public transport).
by the way, my apartment is in the former eastern part of Berlin, so there
are still heaps of exciting old buildings reminiscent of the gbr days
(check out karl-marx-allee!!), many old shabby backyards and occupied
houses. those dead-end-areas have enabled young creative to start their
businesses from scratch, so watch out for loads of bizare shops and
offices tucked away in dark corners where you wouldn't expect much more
than rubbish bins......for shopping you can go to either the north of
Torstrasse through kastanienallee and prenzlauer berg, the south leading
to famous hackesche höfe and friedrichstrasse with its many luxury
shopping facilities (lafayette, quartier 206), embassies and government
buildings. this is all just minutes away!
for those of you interested in night life and music, the über-record-labels
kitty yo and chicks on speed are in the neighbourhood, too! the
Auguststrasse boasting the highest gallery density in berlin is only round
the corner as well. oh, and many cinemas in hackesche höfe and prenzlauer
berg are showing films in English.
well, what more can i say? my apartment is not luxurious but very high
standard for Berlin. it is very quiet despite the proximity of the
Torstrasse, very bright (three windows for one room!), wooden floor, a
built-in quality kitchenette and comfortable bathroom. I'm actually living
here by myself but my boyfriend is staying with me most of the time, so
two people can comfortably sleep and stay here. you'll find my stereo and
turntable including my record collection, a guitar for
impromptu-entertainment, a sewing machine, telephone, possibly a laptop
with modem,
some (german) books (philosophy, art...) and a couple of German, British
and Australian fashion magazines (i-D, dazed & confused...) in case you
are an arty person and happen to be too tired to leave the house.....
laundries, delis, super markets, health food stores, newspaper stands,
restaurants, health spas, atm´s, internet cafes, bakeries, a pharmacy and
the post office and other amenities important for daily survival are on or
around Torstrasse.
anyway, if you decide to visit berlin (which you should, cause its only a
question of time until the charm of this extraordinary city, with its two
parts still noticeable, will be just another "globalised" metropole), you
are well catered with a place in mitte! |
