Description. The home is the upper floor of a large traditional stone house with high ceilings, 2 bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen, full porch and 2 verandas. It is newly painted and renovated. A peaceful area surrounded by olive trees, orange orchards and panoramic views of Mount Taygetos which lies adjacent to this village of 2000 people. The house is furnished with 2 bedrooms, couch, tables, chairs, kitchen utensils, fireplace, refrigerator, and an electric stove/oven. Below on the first floor lives my mother.
The village lies off a major road halfway between the historic and presently commercial center of Sparta and the beautiful seaport-beach resort of Gythion-approximately 20 km. from each. The weather is usually mild with a nice summer breeze blowing off the mountain which also protects the valley from winter storms. The whole area is lush with much greenery, fresh air and delicious cool spring water. Xirokambi is on a regular bus route with 8 stops a day from Sparta and has many inexpensive taxis, so an auto is not necessary. However, many inexpensive car rental places are available in Sparta and Gythion. Footpaths and bike trails lead along streams into pine forest, meadows, smells of wildflowers and herbs and very close by to the mid review town of Komosta. The whole area has many ancient sites, monasteries, forest and natural beauty. Besides all the modern comforts, it also retains the charm of early Greek traditional arts, crafts, cuisine and culture. The local people are very hospitable and most speak English. Sparta and Gythion both have exciting night life activities. The coastline 20 minutes away by car has beautiful beaches private coves, restaurants, castles, caves, museums, shops and ferryboat service to many Greek islands and even North Africa. Xirokambi has many taverns, coffee shops and a large town square, a 10 minute walk from the house. There are many stores, bakeries, a post office, supermarket and weekly farmer's market. Public telephones and fax are available
