Description. A
little about our house - it is very warm as it is heated by a very efficient
heat pump/air conditioning unit. The living area is on one level and has
living/dining room, kitchen was re-modelled September 2002 and has all
modern conveniences - dishwasher, microwave, double wall oven, glass top
hob, fridge etc. The main bathroom has a shower & bath, separate wc
and the master bedroom has an ensuite bathroom. Downstairs we have
Computer (Internet access), deep freeze, 3car garaging and workshop.
There is a secluded barbecue area with a gas barbecue. The house is situated
in the North-west suburb of Gleniti, Timaru. There is a local Tavern in the
vicinity. Our car can be included in an exchange.
Timaru has a number of good restaurants. Our bay, called Caroline
Bay, with it's fine sandy beach is known throughout NZ as a safe swimming
beach. Timaru has a population of 28,000 and is situated half-way down
the East Coast of the scenic South Island, 100miles south of the city of
Christchurch, and 125miles north of Dunedin. Timaru is ideally
situated for touring the rest of the South Island, and there is easy access
to the North Island via the ferry service from Picton to Wellington.
Timaru is a very safe town and is a service centre for the large farming
area around it, which includes scenic rolling countryside. In Timaru,
one can view the sea as well as the wonderful mountains at the same time -
in fact from the front of our house we get an excellent view of the
mountains. You can sometimes see Mt Cook from Timaru which is only 130 miles
away. "Middle Earth" was filmed at a number of sites in the South Ialand the
nearest to here is about 70 miles away
. There is a chap who runs tours to the various sites of the filming of
the "Lord of the Rings" starting from Geraldine only 25 miles from here.
We are within 5 minutes driving distance from the city centre with excellent
shopping, theatre, films etc. There is also a bus service and swimming
pools.
We have a cat called "Batley" named after where we lived in Yorkshire.
He is a ginger male and thinks he owns the place here - he is very sociable
and is easy to look after - our neighbour is good with him and is happy to
look after him when we go on holidays. We are non-smokers but we do
like a wine Our car is a 1996 Honda Domani (Civic) in good order.
Exchanges to the UK are already arranged for February,March, April & June
2005, so therefore we are keen to fill May. Our weather - May in NZ is
Autumn, we usually get mild settled weather, with cooler nights. This
area and Central Otago which is nearby, is very attractive with the Autumn
colours in the trees. |
