| Description. The location is
in the heart of the Pennsylvania Dutch country, Lancaster County PA. There
is a neat covered bridge that you can see from our windows. There are
Amish, Mennonite and regular farms in this area and never does an hour go
by that horses and buggies do not pass our place. The city of Lancaster is
9 miles south. Philadelphia is 65 miles southeast. New York City is a
3-hour drive northeast. Baltimore is 2 hours and Washington DC is 3 hours
south. Gettysburg is one and one half hours west. Hershey, PA is 35 miles
away and the PA capitol, Harrisburg, 40 miles away. This central location
is great especially if you're staying for a long time. And if you're into
shopping this area is second to none. Reading, PA which introduced outlet
stores in the late 60's is just 20 miles away in Berks County. Recently
the Reading outlets were rated number one by none other than Arthur
Frommer. Adamstown, the antiques capital of the world is 10 miles north. Our home is in a quiet location on a river, yet is within a mile from a large supermarket. There is a modern, fully equipped public library 5 miles away in Ephrata. The kitchen has the usual appliances-sink, electric stove, refrigerator, garbage disposal, dishwasher and a washer/dryer. One bedroom, with kid's bunk beds, is furnished for our grandchildren, using the 101 Dalmatians theme. Our master bedroom has a king-sized bed and includes an outside door leading to the deck on the river level. The entire property is built on a terraced slope with the living room and kitchen on the main level, the bedrooms on a lower level and the main deck on the river level. We are Russell, age 62,who is a retired public school teacher of history and Peggy, age 62, who is retired from civil service with the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue. We have no pets since our children married and moved out! |
