Description. A spacious, gray
stone house in quiet neighborhood only 3 miles from downtown Columbia, the
University of South Carolina and the state capitol grounds. Also, blocks
away from a local river outfitter which organizes trips and rents equipment
for paddlers. Three different rivers run through Columbia, all beautiful.
Columbia is a mid-size city (about 600,000) with a variety of good
restaurants and clubs, some excellent small theaters, an art house cinema,
beautiful parks and botanical gardens, venues for music (jazz, blues, rock
and classical). The university also sponsors events and speakers year
round. Located in the center of the state, Columbia is a 2 hour drive to
the coast (Charleston, Savannah), a two hour drive to the mountains
(Asheville, NC) and a few hours from major cities (Charlotte in 90
minutes, Atlanta in three hours.) The house is 1600 square feet, has two
bedrooms (1 with queen size bed, another with full size futon), two baths,
living room, dining room and a large "family room" in the back.
There is a small front porch to sit on and a large back yard with outdoor
seating, a hammock and a vegetable garden which should be ripe with
harvestables when you arrive. Weather is hot in July and August (80's and
90's) and absolutely gorgeous every other month of the year. I would
prefer to bring my cat on holiday, but would consider exchanging pet care
duties.
