The Home

The large studio is located on the first floor of our residence. We occupy the main level of the house (second floor). The studio is a separate self-contained unit that we have recently remodeled. The studio is about 800 square foot, has an open floor plan, includes a sleeping area with a queen bed and a closet, a dining  area with a dining table and two chairs, a living room area with sofa (large enough to be used as a single bed), coffee table , Persian rug , shelves and a Stereo- CD Player. The Kitchen area is furnished with white cabinets, two large stainless steel sinks, a new full refrigerator/ ice maker, pantry, gas stove with 4 burners  and a full oven. There are 5 windows (all with double glass) and 4 floor to ceiling sliding window doors which open to the deck and garden.  The studio has a full bath (i.e: shower and full bath tub). The studio floor is all covered with Cyprus wood, wooden beams decorate the ceiling and walls. There is a charming iron 'pot-belly' wood burning stove and plenty supply of Madrona wood to build a fire, in addition to an independent central heating system regulated from the unit. The studio has a separate entry, a large deck and garden. The deck in front of the unit is about 450 square foot and is all yours, The deck opens into the garden. The residence is located in the most sought after area on the island: Quartermaster Bay, with outstanding views of the  ocean (Puget Sound) , Burton Peninsula, Maury Island and the breathtaking view of Mount Rainier ( an old volcano and glacier covered year around with a thick white cover of snow).  We have also two bikes and a kayak that we will be pleased to offer for your use.

The Neighborhood

The island is small (about 13 miles  length, 3 miles width) , the population is 10,000, inhabitants include a large number of artists , business executives and retirees. More than an average number of PhD's live on the island. The island is a paradise for individuals who would like to combine the taste of a relaxed island life style  and  the big city  pleasures , spectacular views of the surrounding ocean and islands, rural scenery of  green meadows and dense woods and a  close proximity to Downtown Seattle with all it’s rich  amenities ( concerts, art galleries, museums , cafes restaurants, live music, the market ,shopping etc.). The island offers a vast variety of outdoor activities such as biking ( lots of quiet scenic back roads) , fishing, kayaking, rowing, boating  ( the small and picturesque  Quartermaster Marina is within walking distance), golf ( we are overlooking the golf course)  and especially bird watching, Quartermaster Harbor’s shallow protected waters mudflats and beaches are a heaven for bird life. It is one of the Important Bird Area ( IBA) in the USA selected by the national Audubon Society.  The island is very close to Downtown Seattle, it is located 15 min from the West part of Seattle, or 20 min from Downtown Seattle by ferry. The ferries run frequently all week. The studio is ideal for a couple (or three people).

 The People
We are Ken and Shirit a couple in our late forties. Shirit is a medicaldirector and Ken is a manager for a large high tech company. We have no children and we are rather spoiled on our comforts so we are looking for accommodations similar to what we have to offer.
